Women’s Health Awareness Day

Women’s Health Awareness Day

Mammograms are probably the most important tool doctors have to diagnose and evaluate breast cancer. Simple PAP tests can identify cancer cells in the earliest stages. While these tests don't prevent cancer, lives are saved by early detection and treatment of this disease. Whether because of a lack of education, lack of insurance or lack of transportation, many BOLO recipients have never had a mammogram or regular gynecological examinations. Annually, Health Care Professionals from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the American Cancer Society attend the food distribution and meet with women individually. They provide education, schedule future appointments and make arrangements for transportation to and from the most distant corners of our county.
